CFD for Aerospace Applications
|
This course gives an overview of external flow problems in
aeronautical/aerospace applications. It details the
different CFD methods which can be employed for subsonic,
transonic, supersonic and hypersonic flow regimes. This
ranges from methods for design which can compute flow
properties in a matter of seconds on a desktop machine,
through to those methods which require supercomputing
facilities and case studies demonstrating appropriate use of
CFD methods in aerospace design.

Description: |
Who should attend?
This course is ideal for:
* employees within SME’s looking to use CFD in future
aerospace projects
* larger businesses wishing to provide convenient and
accessible continuing professional development to staff
working in this field
* researchers or students who plan to use CFD methods as
part of an aeronautical or aerospace related research project
* experienced engineers looking for a refresher course.
Benefits
Following this course you will have a critical awareness of
the range of external flow problems in aeronautical and
aerospace applications in which CFD methods can be used. You
will be able to critically evaluate the limitations of each
potential CFD method, and then select the appropriate one to
be used in a given aeronautical or aerospace flow.
The sponsoring organisation benefits from having an employee
or researcher who has a broad appreciation of the methods
which can be employed in different at different flow speeds
and for different applications (i.e.choice of method
tailored to both operating conditions and required output).
This will have a direct impact on the capability of the
candidate, and hence improve the quality of projects delivered.
Topics
The course features lectures on External Flow Problems in
Aeronautical/Aerospace Applications; CFD Methods for
Subsonic, Supersonic and Hypersonic Regimes; CFD Methods for
Design; Application Case Studies.
