CFD for Environmental Flows
|
This short course gives an introduction to all of the above
environmental flows with an emphasis on detailing the
theoretical problem, then describing current empirical
engineering design standards and finally the role of
cutting-edge CFD methods such as Reynolds-Averaged Navier
Stokes and Large-Eddy-Simulation.

Description: |
Who should attend?
This course is ideal for those who are:
* looking to employ CFD for environmental problems
* architects or civil engineers who need a refresher
course on prediction of wind loading or pedestrian wind
environments
* currently working in the wind engineering industry or
in flood prediction.
Benefits
This course will give you a concise introduction to
environmental flow problems in wide ranging areas. Most
notably, you will be able to critically assess a given flow;
will be aware of empirical results which can be used for
software validation, and will appreciate which CFD models
can be applied.
Given the wide range of flow types present in environmental
flows, this short course will benefit the sponsoring
organisation by training providing a broad appreciation of
the many facets of environmental flows in one compact
course. It also includes hand-on experience with an
environmental flow software package.
Topics
The course features lectures on the Atmospheric Boundary
Layer; Pollution dispersion; Rivers, estuaries and tidal
flows; sediment transport; building and urban aerodynamics;
Free-surface and shallow-water flows (flood prediction).
Hands-on session using an environmental flow software package.
