Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (www.fsb.hr), University
of Zagreb, Croatia (www.unizg.hr), announces the Fourth
edition of the Summer School on Modelling of Coupled
Problems in Applied Physics with OpenFOAM (NUMAP-FOAM) for
PhD students and young researchers in Zagreb in September
2011. The Programme Chairs of the Summer School are
Professor Zdravko Terze and Professor Hrvoje Jasak, original
OpenFOAM developer.
Description
The Summer School shall concentrate on providing tuition for
a small and selected group of students and researchers in
academia and industry. The idea of the Summer School is to
expand the physical modelling knowledge, numerics and
programming skills of attendees using OpenFOAM in their
research through direct supervision and one-to-one work.
Lectures on chosen topics of mathematical and numerical
modelling pertinent to coupled problems in engineering and
applied physics will be delivered in addition. For further
references, please contact the organisers or one of 40
alumni of previous Summer Schools.
To ensure quality of work and supervision, the number of
places is strictly limited.
Place and Time
The Summer School will run over 11 working days working
under supervision of Professor Hrvoje Jasak, with the
assistance of OpenFOAM experts, including dr. Zeljko
Tukovic, dr. Henrik Rusche and others. Tutorials, lectures
and group work will run from Wednesday 31 August and
Wednesday 14 September 2011 at the Laboratory of Flight
Vehicle Dynamics and Structural Systems, Faculty of
Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of
Zagreb, Ivana Lucica 5, Zagreb, Croatia.
How to Apply: OpenFOAM Summer School 2011
To apply, please write a one-page description of the project
you wish to work on, with current problems and goals to be
achieved at the Summer School. Application is open to all
students on MSc and PhD University courses, as well as young
researchers in commercial companies and government
organisations with sufficient OpenFOAM experience.
Please note this is NOT an introductory OpenFOAM course:
significant understanding of the project and software is a
pre-requisite for application.
Deadline for application is 1 May 2011. Successful
candidates will be informed within three weeks of closing.
Accommodation and Costs
Attendees to the Summer School should plan to cover their
travel and accommodation expenses, ideally bringing a laptop
computer with them. A registration fee for the Summer School
is EUR 875 per attendee.
