Dr Darrin Stephens will deliver this two-day course at the
The University of Queensland, Gardens Point Campus,
Brisbane. The two day introductory training in OpenFOAM is
designed to enable CFD practitioners to start using OpenFOAM
for practical computations. The methodology employed
consists of a series of lectures that provide a general
understanding of OpenFOAM topics followed by hands-on work.
No knowledge of the OpenFOAM library is assumed. Rudimentary
Linux commands and their relationship to hands-on examples
are explained. This training focuses on the OpenFOAM
Foundation version 2.1.1 of OpenFOAM.
Participants will be able to use OpenFOAM independently in
their daily work after this training.
Day 1
Introduction
Overview of Linux commands
OpenFOAM: A library for Scientific Computing
Mesh generation, conversion and set-up: importing Fluent meshes,
Material properties, initial and boundary conditions,
Running the solver,
Hand-on examples.
Day 2
Finite Volume Discretisation: theoretical base of OpenFOAM,
Field initialisation, post-processing and field probes,
Hands-on examples,
Mesh generation with Pointwise,
Turbulence models and boundary conditions,
Using OpenFOAM in parallel.
A hard copy of the training notes will be provided together
with a USB stick with a working copy of the OpenFOAM and
workshop files from the course.
**For hands-on examples, attendees are required to bring
their own laptop (PC). A USB thumb drive with OpenFOAM
installed will be provided**
There are no special requirements on CFD or a programming
background.
