Osborne Reynolds Oral and Poster PhD Competitions offer prestigious awards that celebrate the quality of research by PhD students and graduates across the broad domain of fluid mechanics, including turbulence, multi‐phase, stratified and free‐surface flows, convective transport processes, combustion and acoustics. Entries are welcome from engineering, physics, mathematics and environmental sciences. PhD students or recent graduates from ALL UK universities are eligible to enter. | |

How to enter the competition Entry to both competitions is open to the current PhD‐registered students at a UK university and recent doctoral graduates from a UK university who graduated since June 2016.To enter the competitions, candidates should submit, via email, a 3 page summary of their research (10 point Arial font or similar), including key objectives, methodology, results and conclusions with key figures to:
The deadline for the submission of summaries is April 21st, 2017 (5.00pm). All entrants are advised to focus equally on novelty, clarity of arguments and presentational style, all of which will be assessed as the basis for choosing the finalists. Entrants will be notified of the result of the selection process by June 12th, 2017. Prof. Brian Launder will deliver a short talk on the life of Osborne Reynolds to open the OR day proceedings. An end‐of‐event reception will provide an opportunity for informal discussions among participants and for viewing Osborne Reynolds’ artefacts and correspondence held by the University of Manchester.
