Description:

CFD is now accepted to be the integral part of the
engineering design by major companies around the world.
Over the past few years, increase in computational power
and availability of Open source/low cost solver has
showcased CFD as a tool. Design engineers and technical
analysts use this approach to model fluid flow.

CFD provides chemical engineers with detailed insights
into the fluid flow phenomenon in equipment. This allows
engineers to understand the implications of equipment
design and operating conditions. Unlike conventional
correlations, CFD can account for non-standard
modifications that are incorporated in equipment over the
course of its active life. Thus predictions using CFD
analysis are far more realistic than the predictions of
the correlations which are based on standard lab or pilot
scale equipment. This makes CFD analysis imperative
during process optimization, scale-up and
intensification. Without building a physical model, it
allows various physics to be examined in a virtual
setting. Equipment at its full-scale can be analysed,
thereby eliminating scale-up related issues.

The objective of the course is to introduce process
engineers to CFD analysis and discuss how CFD results can
be used to solving mixing problems.

The highlights of the course are as follows -
1st Session: 14th June | 9:00 AM CDT
Part A) General CFD Introduction:
            What is CFD?
            Why use CFD?
            General application of CFD
Part B) CFD Theory
           Governing equations: Continuity, Momentum and
energy equation
           Discretization method : Finite Difference
method & Finite Volume method
