Multiphase flows are unavoidably present in most of the industrial applications as well as the everyday life. In
many cases we can simplify the problem by treating it like a single-phase problem. This however is not always
possible since density diffrences but also the differences in the thermodynamics behaviour of the various
components in mixtures do not allow a simplification and each component must be separately considered.
Typical applications are fluidized beds, bubble columns, oil extraction, mixing vessels, spray dryers, cyclone
separators and flue gas scrubbers. Other physical or chemical problems like erosion, cavitation, boiling, sloshing
and surface reactions introduce further complexities. This workshop will present applications from the above
examples and will enable you to acquire a better understanding of how such problems arise and more
importantly how they can be resolved using CFD.
