Description: | |
Course Aims The course is aimed at giving the STAR-CD user an understanding of how to set-up and effectively run three dimensional STAR-CD analyses coupled to a one dimensional engine simulation Code. The course will use GT-POWER as the engine simulation Code. For some components, a more stable and realistic STAR-CD analysis is obtained by allowing the unsteady STAR-CD analysis results to interact with (influence) the domain boundary conditions. In addition to instruction, the course will provide the STAR-CD user with hands-on experience through use of a worked example. The course also offers the User the opportunity to interact with an experienced engineer who as run several coupled analyses. Course Content The training is structured into 3 stages across the duration of 2 days. Stage 1: Building the coupled models The one-dimensional and three-dimensional flow models are similar to ones used for stand-alone analyses, but differ in several aspects. These differences include not only the hooks for the actual coupling of the two models, but also modifications to improve the stability of the coupled analysis. The training will cover:
During the analysis, STAR-CD and GT-Power run simultaneously, exchanging data at the boundaries for each time step. It is necessary to continue the analysis until a cyclically-repeating solution is achieved. The training will include:
The coupled 1D/3D analysis produces a tremendous amount of data, which must be post-processed in order to be able to understand the complex three-dimensional flow behaviours. The training will include:
