The proposed Conference is the eleventh of an outstandingly fortunate series of Conferences of the same title
and subject, dating back to 1975. The general scope of the Conference is Fluidization as a technique to
accomplish multiphase contacting in the process industry. The entire spectrum that goes from fundamentals of
Fluidization to its applications is addressed with special emphasis on emerging and novel systems.
Fluidization is a strongly interdisciplinary area wherein process and chemical engineering, mechanical
engineering, physics, mathematics still find, after more than fifty years of extensive research work, challenging
problems to be dealt with. The impact of Fluidization on technology becomes broader and broader as new
areas of applications are envisaged. Despite the apparent simplicity of Fluidization as such, the variety of
fluidization patterns (bubbling, fast, turbulent, spouted, three-phase, with or without circulation), of the related
issues (fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer, attrition and erosion, mixing and segregation, entrainment and
elutriation, separation and ancillary equipment) and of technological implementations (in the chemical,
petrochemical, pharmaceutical, biochemical, food, synthesis of materials, energy conversion, environmental
applications) makes it an outstandingly open and challenging field for fundamental and applied research.
This eleventh conference in the series will keep a special attention on the very fundamentals of fluidization
research, as the basis for its successful application. At the same time, contributions that report on emerging
and potential exploitation of the fluidization technique as well as on occurrence and impact of fluidization
phenomena in the natural sciences will be stimulated. In other words, one of the main aims of the Fluidization
XI Conference will be the increase in the number of industrial and academic sectors, which can give new and
useful contributions to scientific understanding, technical discussion and mutual interactions, in a word, to the
knowledge in the field.
The number of participants in the last conferences has been around 200, balanced from all over the world and
from both academia and industry. The Proceedings of this Conference Series have long risen to the role of an
internationally reputed key reference. They lend themselves to be a directory of qualified people and a
treasure of current trends and perspective goals in fluidization research.
