Description: |
The status of aircraft drag prediction, analysis and reduction methods will be evaluated. The emphasis will be on computational fluid dynamics methods, but wind tunnel test techniques may also be included. Different topics that will be discussed are: drag estimation using farfield or wake integration compared to volume integration; thrust-drag decomposition methods allowing the decomposition of different contributions: wave drag, viscous and induced drag; effects of physical modelling such as turbulence and transition; effects of numerical modelling and grid quality; and comparing structured and unstructured grid solvers. Other aspects that will be covered are specific problems related to high lift systems and engine integration, and aerodynamic design optimization based on drag reduction.
