Description: |
This Lecture Series is intended to provide a state-of-the-art review of turbulence modeling and to indicate current research directions. The course begins with an introduction to the fundamental physical principles of turbulence and its modeling. Subsequently, a critical survey is made of the turbulence models currently available and of their domains of utilization. Emphasis is given to those models that can be considered sufficiently mature for applications of practical interest. Eddy viscosity models and full Reynolds stress closures are reviewed in detail. Special attention is given to advanced turbulence models based on Large Eddy Simulation principles. Because of its nature and content, this short course is valuable for both researchers and engineers interested in acquiring a fundamental knowledge of the problems and options in the domain of turbulence modeling for their specific field of interest.
